About Noir
Now there are very few films that are interesting for me to watch, the majority belong to the category: looked and forgot. The plot is secondary, humor gets boring, characters often do illogical actions, and it annoys me very much. Therefore, I started watching the old film, I started with the films of the 90s: “Forrest Gump”, “Escape from the Showcock”, “On the needle”, I had only heard about them before, but I didn’t reach out to see my hands. Then I remembered the very old genre: “Noir”, and began to watch black and white films enthusiastically.
What is the movie Noir?
So, where did the word “noir” come from, what kind of films these are, and how to relate to this? The word “noir” comes from the French word noir, which means “black”. That is, noir film in direct translation can be called a black film. The genre of the black film is characterized by the general gloom of the picture, the action mainly takes place at night in the city, while the city is almost another main character who delays the heroes and prevents them from getting out.And one of the most important attributes of the genre is a cynical and harsh main character.Just on this note, you need to go to the film, which began all this, like a course.
The “Maltese falcon” of director John Houston https://thisisvegascasino.co.uk/ was released in the 41st year, and was a film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Dashil Hammet, written in the late 20s. What is the plot of the picture? An attractive girl with a seemingly harmless request is addressed to the agency of two private detectives Sam Spade and Milesa Archer – to help her sister get rid of an annoying friend. For such a pros as Spade and Archer – no problems, like a training. But on the very first night of the task, Miles Archer was killed – shot at point blank range. From this moment on, Sam Spade begins to understand the case in more detail and gradually understands that the story of a sister and friend is an absolute raspberry, and in reality the situation is nothing more than a showdown in the black market. The film itself was not very impressed by me, but it is pretty good.Link to the picture
Naturally, from the “Maltese falcon” everything just began. And a year later a film appeared that secured both Noir and Humphrey Bogart, as the most popular that was in the cinema for the 40s decades. I’m talking about such a legendary film as Casablanca.Almost everyone heard about this picture, someone even knows what it is about, but almost no one has seen her from the modern generation of the viewer (by the okrom, of course, the movieomanans).Michael Curtis’s painting tells the story of the cynical and disappointed in the life of American Rick Blaine, who holds a restaurant in the Moroccan city of Kasablanca. The action takes place at the very beginning of World War II. Rick’s life flows calmly, it is absolutely neutral in his political views. But the balance is violated by the old love of Rick – Ilsa, who appeared with her husband, Viktor Lazlo, who is the leader of the Czech anti -fascist movement. This is where the main development of history begins. Look at yourself – I highly recommend. By the way, “Casablanca” is one of the few representatives (if not the only) case of the confluence of Nuar and melodrama.Unfortunately in the 50s, noir began to shoot the majority, which led to the collapse of this style.Link to the picture
My favorite noir films: “From the past”, “House of strangers”, “Sautit Street incident”.
From Noir-IGR, it is worth noting: “Under a Killing Moon”, “Grim Fandango” and of course the series of games “Max Payne”
